World Environment Day (WED) is an annual event celebrated every 5 June. It is the United Nation's principal vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. The day was first observed in 1974. The day has been viewed a flagship campaign for raising awareness on emerging environmental issues from marine pollution and global warming, to sustainable consumption and wildlife crime.

The theme invites people to think about how we are part of nature and how intimately we depend on it. This challenges us to find exciting ways to foster this vital relationship.
The national organizing steering committee held the first meeting on 5th April at NEMA Headquarters where they brought stakeholders together to chat the way for towards preparations of the event.
