KENYA PETROLEUM TECHNICAL ADVISORY PROJECT
The Kenya Petroleum Technical Advisory Project (KEPTAP) is a World Bank funded project whose principal objective is to assist Kenya build the required capacity at various levels to enable the country to play active and leading roles in the development and management of the petroleum sector once production and utilization of the discovered oil and gas is on stream. The pre-appraisal mission advised that Strategic Environmental and Social Assessment (SESA) be carried out by the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) for the KEPTAP as a World Bank safeguard requirement. This will inform the Government on any gaps in the legal and management framework for the environment and social aspects of the petroleum sub-sector. In line with this, the Authority has developed the Terms of Reference for the Strategic Environmental and Social Assessment (SESA).
