For the second time in row, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) was feted with three prestigious awards during the 4th Africa Public Sector Conference and Awards (APSCA) ceremony held in Nairobi’s Radisson Blu hotel on 8th September 2023.

These include;

  • Africas Environmental Regulator of the year 2023,
  • Public Sector team of the year - NEMA Management Team-Bronze
  • NEMA Director General, Mamo B. Mamo, EBS was awarded the "Environment CEO of the year 2023"

In 2022 during the 3rd APSCA held in Accra Ghana, the Authority was awarded two awards including the Africa’s Environmental Regulator of the Year and NEMA DG was awarded the Africa’s CEO of the year.

Being the 4th edition organized by InstinctWave Limited, the historical moment saw several notable institutions from Ghana, Rwanda, Kenya, Botswana and Nigeria receive awards for their excellence in public service delivery.

Themed towards a digitized, “Green and resilient economy: the role of public sector,” the conference brought together stakeholders and senior leaders in Africa’s public sector.

The 4th annual award ceremony was officiated by the Spouse of the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E Pastor Dr. Dorcas Gachagua accompanied by the Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage CS, Hon. Peninah Malonza, OGH and CS Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, Hon. Soipan Tuya, CBS among other African leaders and stakeholders.

Instinct Wave Chief Executive Officer Akin Naphtal explained that being the only continental recognition and reward scheme of its kind, the Africa Public Sector Conference and Awards’ first edition took place in 2018 in Accra Ghana and has since then grown to become a truly inclusive program which has seen public sector managers in Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, Nigeria, and Ghana cited for great achievements in their specific areas of responsibility.

“We are extremely excited to present the awards here in Nairobi, which has just held a highly successful Africa Climate Summit and Africa Climate Week. As an ISO certified company that is domiciled in the UK, with offices in Ghana and Nigeria, we are proud to have set up a satellite here in Kenya,” he noted.

Her Excellency Kenya’s second lady, Pastor Dr. Dorcas Rigathi delivered the keynote address during which she was presented with the award for her Outstanding Catalyst in Vulnerability Empowerment for her work with supporting the boy child.

Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, Hon. Soipan Tuya was awarded the Cabinet Secretary of the year 2023 award for having successfully run the Africa Climate Summit that resulted in the Nairobi Declaration while her counterpart Hon Peninah Maloza, the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism, Wildlife and Heritage in Kenya was awarded Tourism Woman of the Year.

Africa Tourism Regulator Award was presented to Kenya Tourism Regulatory Authority, Kenya Revenue Authority picked the Public Sector Campaign of the Year Award while cognition for Excellence in Data Protection Education and Awareness went to Kenya’s Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.

The Role Africa Public Sector Conference and Awards (APSCA) brings unites stakeholders and senior leaders in Africa’s public sector that are in leading innovation, alongside selected group of private leading businesses offering innovative solutions to the public sector to discuss and share insights on technology in the public sector.

“These awards are an opportunity for the government to showcase its work and the impact they are making in their respective communities and citizens. Those of us who attended the Africa Public Sector Conference will agree with me that the platform offered great insights from the speakers and panelists, opening a window into the challenges and opportunities for us to elevate the public sector’s role in driving innovation, the green agenda, technology, enterprise, the blue economy and inclusion of women and young people at the policy level and at decision making tables,” explained Naphtal.

Previous awards ceremony have been held in Kigali- Rwanda and the two others held in Accra, Ghana.
