NEMA DG urges researchers to be innovative


The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) Director General Prof Geoffrey Wahungu has urged researchers to be more innovative to stimulate development and environmental protection.

In his speech delivered by Deputy Director, Environmental Education and Information, Mr. Mamo Boru at Chuka University on 26th October, 2016 during the Third International Research Conference, Prof. Wahungu stated that there is need to reconcile environment and economic growth to spur development.

The Director General further stated that since Rio Conference in 1992, the world has tried to reconcile environment and development thus stimulating important actions both at global and national levels.

The theme of the conference was, “Harnessing research, innovation and technology to realize the sustainable development goals.” The objective was to disseminate and share current knowledge, innovation and technologies to spur sustainable development in Kenya.

The Authority also mounted an exhibition at the conference. Chuka University DVC (Academic, Research and Student Affairs), Prof. Dorcas Isutsa was impressed by the exhibition.
