Eric Wagithuku Mungai has over 25 years’ experience in senior management positions, serving as a director of several successful businesses in Kenya. He has extensive experience in various economic sectors, including property development, mining, agribusiness, hospitality and education. He is widely travelled with a strong network of global contacts in the USA, France, UK, Turkey, South Africa, Republic of South Sudan, Uganda and Tanzania

He holds Bachelors of Arts, Leadership and Management, St. Paul University, Kenya, Business Management at the School of Management in Boston University and USIU-Africa, Nairobi.

He has served as Director, Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and Chairman, Sunkissed Limited and Chairman/CEO Astral Mining Limited. Currently, he is the Executive Director, Speedway Investments that is involved in several real estate ventures and has successfully completed Cedar Springs and Cedar Valley developments.

In 2016, he was awarded the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) for distinguished service to the nation from H. E. Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya.

He was appointed to serve as the Chairman, National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) in 2022.

Dr. Lul Abdiwahid is the vice Chairperson, NEMA. She is an advocate by profession. She is the founder of Pure Pearl Foundation and also the proprietor of the Mombasa-based law firm, Abdiwahid and Associates Advocates.

                             Director General

Mamo Boru Mamo, EBS has over 25 years of experience in public service with 18 years of work experience at the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), having grown through the ranks to the position of Director General. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Education & Extension from Egerton University and a Master of Science Degree in Environmental Education from Kenyatta University. Currently a PhD candidate in Climate Change and Sustainable Development. He is an Alumni of the prestigious International Leadership Development Programme (IVLP), Washington DC (USA) in Water Resources Protection (2013).

Mamo was appointed the Acting Director General in February 2019. Previously, he served as Deputy Director in charge of Environmental Education, Information and Public Participation in the Authority. He was appointed substantively as the Director General on 13th August, 2020 through a competitive process. 

In February 2022, Mamo was recognized by H.E president Uhuru Kenyatta with Elder of Burning Spear (EBS) for his immense contribution to Environmental Conservation  in Kenya. Mamo was recently recognized by the Africa Public Sector forum and awarded the Africa Public Sector CEO of the Year 2022 Award in Accra, Ghana and the top 50 Public Sector leader in Environment Sector in Africa.

He holds a PhD in Agricultural / Environmental Chemistry from University of Glasgow, United Kingdom and an MBA on Strategic Management from the Management University of Africa-Kenya and B.S.C Chemistry (India).

Jeremiah Motari Matunda

J. Motari Matunda is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and currently working at the Office of the Attorney General as Principal State Counsel.

He holds a Bachelor of Social laws (BSL) and Bachelor of Law (LLB), Master of Laws (LLM) in International Environmental Law from the University of Nairobi. Post graduate diploma in Corporate Governance. Post graduate diploma from Kenya School of Law (KSL), Senior Management Course (SMC) and Strategic Leadership training program (SLDP) from the Kenya School of Government-lower Kabete.

Currently pursuing doctor of philosophy at the University of Nairobi.

He has represented the government in numerous high profile court cases involving mega projects on environment.

Prof. Peninah Aloo-Obudho is a Professor in Fisheries Ecology   and Deputy Vice- Chancellor in charge of Academics, Research and Student Affairs (ARSA) at Karatina University in Nyeri County, Kenya. Prof. Aloo-Obudho started her academic journey as a Tutorial Fellow in 1991 in the Department of Zoology at Kenyatta University. She rose through the academic ranks to the position of Associate Professor in the same university. In 2019, she was promoted to the position of Professor in Fisheries Ecology in the Department of Natural Resources at Karatina University.

Academically, Prof. Aloo-Obudho has published 25 articles in refereed journals, edited   three books, edited   seven conference proceedings and supervised postgraduate students. In her area of specialization, Prof. Aloo-Obudho has been involved in many projects including: Human Impacts on Lake Baringo Ecosystem, Studies on Lake Naivasha Ecosystem, Value Added Products on Rastrineobola argentea in Lake Victoria, Changes in Fish Species Composition in Satellite Lakes of Lake Victoria and Ecology of Parasites in   Marine Fish Species along the Kenyan Coast, among others. As an Ecologist, Prof. Aloo-Obudho has been involved in   several   environmental projects. She is currently coordinating a project on environmental conservation through establishment of Environmental Clubs in primary schools in Nyeri County. The principle is to inculcate environmental virtues in young children so they will protect the environment for posterity. The project which has also established a Botanical Garden at Karatina University   is supported by the Rufford Foundation, United Kingdom.  The project has rehabilitated degraded areas in Nyeri County including Muringato Forest   through planting of indigenous   trees.

Prof. Peninah Aloo-Obudho has vast experience in coordinating leadership   projects.  In 2017, she   won a competitive project on National Multiplication Training (NMT) to train Deans and Directors in universities on” Quality leadership and Management: A Driver of Change in Higher Education”. This project was supported by   the German Academic Exchange Service ( DAAD). In 2019, Prof. Aloo-Obudho received funds from DAAD to   implement a project on the training of top university leaders on “Developing Visionary, Effective and Transformative University Leaders”.   

Prof. P. Aloo-Obudho is  a former    Chairman of the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI), having served as a board member in the same institute.  During her tenure as the Chairman, KMFRI made great strides with regard to implementation of major projects, acquisition of a research vessel ( MV,Mtafiti), construction of a Marine Resource Centre, development of a strategic plan, attainment of ISO certification, enhancement of research activities , establishment of collaborations and enhancement of KMFR,s visibility. Prof. Aloo- Obudho is   currently the Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA).

  Mitaru

Barnabas Njiru  Mitaru is a professor of Animal Production. He holds a Ph.D in animal nutrition, University of Saskatchewan, 1982, MSc. in Animal production, University of Nairobi, 1979 and BSC in agriculture, University of Nairobi, 1974.

He currently works as a professor of animal production at the University of Nairobi having previously worked as an associate professor of animal production at the same university. He has also worked as an Adjunct Professor at McGill University, Canada as well as a senior lecturer of animal production at Nairobi University among others.

His academic and research experience runs through several years of working with different organizations. These research activities have led to enhanced development activities, especially in drylands. In particular, Prof Mitaru has advanced interest in research in sorghum and millet and feed in the Eastern and Central Africa. Prof. Mitaru has also held various professional responsibilities among them as vice-president at the World Association of Animal Production between 2000 and 2008.

Being appointed as a board member at NEMA brings in a vast knowledge in management having previously served as a board member at Embu Water and Sanitation Company Ltd and Chairman, Gachoka Constituency Development Fund (CDF) committee.

Neto Agostinho is a trained Lawyer from the University of Nairobi. He participated in Human Rights events at the University of Nairobi named Africa’s Fourth Best Oralist on issues Human Rights in 2004, at an event organized by Center for Human Rights, Pretoria, held at Daresalam University. He is on the verge of completing a Masters on International Relations at the United States International University in Africa.

Neto Agostinho is a trained Lawyer from the University of Nairobi. He participated in Human Rights events at the University of Nairobi named Africa’s Fourth Best Oralist on issues Human Rights in 2004, at an event organized by Center for Human Rights, Pretoria, held at Daresalam University. He is on the verge of completing a Masters on International Relations at the United States International University in Africa.Neto represented Ndhiwa Constituency, in Homabay County at the National Assembly of Kenya.

He was first elected to Parliament in September 2012 following a by-election in the Constituency and got re-elected in March 2013.He served in the Committees of Delegated legislation and Justice and legal Affairs at the National Assembly. He was the Vice Chair of Bunge Sports Club, and the Convener of the Parliamentary Caucus on Human Rights. He was also the vice Chair of Common Wealth Africa Parliamentary Human Rights Group.Neto has a special interest in Human Rights and international Relations. He participates in various Human Rights related activities that range from equality to Economic Social Cultural rights. The legislations he championed in Parliament  included amongst other laws, the Health Records and Information Managers Act, the Refugee Bill, The Reparations Bill and the Employment Skills Development bill.

Neto serves as an expert Human Rights Resource person, and has trained parliamentarians in the South East Asia region in March 2016 – Srilanka on the role of parliamentarians in promoting and protecting Human Rights, participated in Human Rights panel discussions in Glion III hearing in Switzerland May 2016, participated as an expert in Geneva, Switzerland to help draw recommendations for Human Rights Council on early child and forced marriages in November 2016. He has also participated as an expert at the World Refugee Council session in Daresalam Tanzania in 2018 to help highlight durable solutions concerns for Refugees in Horn of Africa.

Neto Currently is the co- leader of the United Green Movement, which is a movement amongst other things, seeks to help realize, civil, political economic, social cultural and Brother hood Rights in Kenya.

She holds a B.A(Hons) in Peace studies and Conflict resolution from Mount Kenya University, Diploma in Business Administration from United Africa College, an Administration Induction Course at Kenya Institute of Administration(K.I.A),a Paramilitary course from Administration Police Training College (A.P.T.C), a P1 certificate from Kilimambogo Teachers Training College and currently undergoing an M.A in International Relations in Mount Kenya University.Halima Ware Duri is the immediate former Member of Parliament (woman representative) of Tana River County. She also worked as head teacher at Huruma primary school where she championed against F.G.M in her pastoralist community and helped in increasing Girl child enrollment in primary schools in Tana River County.

 Dr Kisa Juma Ngeiywa holds a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Veterinary Clinical Studies, 1993 and Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine (BVM) from the University of Nairobi, 1985.Dr Kisa Juma Ngeiywa holds a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Veterinary Clinical Studies, 1993 and Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine (BVM) from the University of Nairobi, 1985.

Since 1985 Dr Ngeiywa has risen in ranks from divisional veterinary officer, camel projects veterinarian, district veterinary officer as senior veterinary officer; senior veterinary investigation officer; assistant director of veterinary services; senior assistant director of veterinary services; deputy director of veterinary services to the director of veterinary services (2013- July 2017).

Dr Ngeiywa served as the Director of Veterinary Services and was the Permanent Kenyan Delegate to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) General Assembly (2013 – 2017).

Dr Ngeiywa has undertaken consultancy assignments for various organizations and institutions in Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.
He also possesses vast experience in leadership, interpersonal skills, planning, coordination and service delivery, including training staff and stakeholders in animal health, production, marketing and livestock emergency guidelines and standards (LEGS); field activities monitoring, evaluation and technical backstopping.
