Field Offices (PDEs & DEOs)
The Provincial and District Environment Committees (PECs and DECs) are appointed for a three-year term by the Minister responsible for matters relating to the environment. The PECs and DECs are chaired by the Provincial and District Commissioners respectively. The first PECs and DECs were appointed in 2002 with the second set of PEC and DECs gazetted in November and December 2003. They are responsible for the proper management of the environment within the province or district in respect of which they are appointed providing an effective decision-making mechanism at the grassroots level.
