CS Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Mr. Keriako Tobiko is received by NEMA Director General Prof Geoffrey Wahungu

The CS was received by NEMA Director General Prof Geoffrey Wahungu. The CS visited the Authority just a day after he officially took over from the outgoing CS Prof Judi Wakhungu. The CS noted the successes that have been achieved in the environmental sector spearheaded by NEMA.

He promised to offer his absolute support to enable the Authority achieve its mandate. “I thought as important to make this the first point of call to emphasize the centrality of your organization and as an assurance of very high esteem which I hold you and your organization,” the CS said. He assured the Director General of his support but stressed on the need for the Authority to do its job and do it effectively. He further stressed on the need to continue with the crackdown on the banned plastic bags. “We made the decision to ban plastic bags and there is no going back,” he stated.

He asserted that the crackdown on the banned plastic bags must be sustained to achieve the desired results. He assured the DG that he will support the ongoing discussions on the plastic bottles.

The Director General thanked the CS for making NEMA his first point of call. He assured him that the Authority will continue discharging its mandate effectively.
