This year, the awards ceremony was held on 27th June 2017 at Mombasa beach hotel. The award was sponsored by the Kenya Coast Development Project (KCDP).
The NEMA Director General, Prof. Geoffrey Wahungu, who was the chief guest congratulated the winners from the various categories for the exemplary work in environmental conservation and best practices.The DG encouraged the stakeholders to continue improving in the noble course of conserving, protecting and promoting best environmental practices.
Prof Wahungu encouraged the stakeholders to support the plastic bags ban which is set to come to effect from 28th August 2017. Mr. Mamo B. Mamo Deputy Director EEI&PP thanked the stakeholders for participating in the competition and working with zeal towards environmental conservation.
The various categories awarded include: Production sector which includes mining, manufacturing, processing and agriculture, Service sector which includes Hospitality (hotels) and Learning Institutions, Advocacy and Public Awareness Sectors which covered the Civil society Organizations (CSOs) , Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and individual category which includes Researchers, Innovators, Conservationists and Environmental advocates.The winners were drawn from the six counties of the coast region which includes; Mombasa, Tana River, Taita Taveta, Kwale and Kilifi. They were awarded with waste segregation bins, life jackets, cooling boxes, desktop computers in addition to a certificate and a trophy.
